If all goes according to plan, Soshanguve Mall could finally open its doors on 21 November 2025—something many locals have been waiting to see for years. There’s a certain buzz in the air; people talk about it in taxis, in barbershops, even at the clinic nearby. It feels like one of those projects that may not just change a place, but redefine how people in the township see development.
The mall is said to be rising right in the Soshanguve CBD, possibly one of the busiest corners of Pretoria North. It may sit next to three other known shopping centres — BB Mall Just across the road, Central City in Mabopane, and Nafcoc Shopping Centre, on the same Buitekant road The location seems intentional; surrounded by bus and taxi stations, with a clinic and police station not too far off. It can make things convenient and, perhaps, feel a little safer for shoppers who’ll be visiting daily.
Developers mention that the project is unfolding in two phases. The first phase — a smaller 7,500m² Value Centre — opened in April 2024. It gave locals a glimpse of what could become one of the biggest retail spaces in the area. The next phase, a much larger 55,500m² double-storey retail complex, is expected to be ready by late 2025. If all goes well, the mall might reach a total Gross Leasable Area of around 63,000m², making it one of the largest township malls in South Africa, right after Maponya Mall in Soweto and Mams Mall in Mamelodi.
Soshanguve’s rich history was also taken into consideration when designing the mall, the central design feature of the mall is based on the Tswaing Crater, which is said to have existed for thousands of years in the region. Tswaing literally means ‘Where there is salt’ the feaure is top window that gives the mall light and brightness. The mall will also have some of the famous reatil giants such as Shoprite, PEP, Woolworths and PnP Clothing. A few newcomers could also be joining the mix: Wimpy, Pedros, Nando’s, Milky Lane, and Sgym — brands that may be opening in Soshanguve for the very first time. For many, that means more variety, maybe even a little lifestyle upgrade close to home.

But beyond the shopping and restaurants, what’s got people talking is the promise of jobs and small business opportunities. Hundreds of locals may find employment once doors open, and township-based entrepreneurs might be able to set up shop or collaborate with major retailers. It feels like the kind of progress that can breathe new life into the area.
